 The 5 S.T.A.R. Academy is housed at Anacostia High School in Southeast, Washington, D.C. and primarily operates through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. This fun, after school program helps youth reach their potential by promoting academic achievement and supporting youth to graduate and pursue post-secondary academic and workplace opportunities. We challenge each of our youth to reach for the 5 STARS of success: Accountability, Achievement, Ability, Attitude, and Attendance. We are committed to assisting Anacostia youth to successfully navigate their high school career by providing these services:

4 ACES

It’s A Winning Hand

 The 4 ACES program uses a holistic approach to affect the cognitive and affective development of participants by focusing on academic skills and their relation to the work environment. The program educates youth and young adults who never graduated from high school or who graduated with insufficient academic skills. It motivates youth to progress to post-secondary education and gain a competitive edge in the job market by concentrating on the 4 ACES:

 Certification training in certain high demand fields provides a workplace bridge for youth who are inexperienced in the computer technology or hospitality related industries. Youth can earn a nationally recognized job-skill certification, which gives them a competitive edge over their peers. The National Restaurant Association Servsafe Food Handler Certificate
 This program works with young people to promote leadership skills, nutrition, and public health prevention concerns, like alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, interpersonal violence and bullying, from a physical activity platform. Youth are encouraged to embrace discipline, goal setting, good decision-making skills, and healthy lifestyles that will lead them to productive citizenship. Academics are monitored, supported and celebrated to reinforce a continuum of success in life.
